How to Support Your Local Central Park Businesses Even During This Socially Distanced Season

Local businesses are at the heart of every community. Right now our local retailers are working hard to keep customers coming through their doors and stay afloat.

So, who will support them? We will!

Supporting local business also supports the local economy. After all, the people who own these businesses are often your friends and neighbors. We can’t think of a better time to pay it forward by supporting small businesses who have always been a huge part of the Central Park community.

When shopping for the any occasion, we urge you to consider your local independently-owned retailers first when buying for friends and loved ones. What’s more – now might be a good time to get that haircut or dental check-up. Why wait until next year? There’s no time like the present!

And when shopping, here are few suggestions for you to consider:

  1. Shop your local stores online. Most retailers are offering their products through online purchasing, even if they hadn’t been doing so before the coronavirus pandemic. Continue supporting local businesses by choosing to order through their websites until they reopen their brick-and-mortar locations.
  2. Buy gift cards. Service businesses like spas and theaters that don’t sell products, are hit particularly hard by the coronavirus shutdowns. Help them continue to turn a profit by purchasing gift cards now for later use.
  3. Tip extra. Whether you’re ordering dinner in or just having your groceries delivered because you can’t leave your home, you can help local businesses make it through this economic crisis by tipping a little bit more than you normally would. You can usually add your tip to the total being charged on your card to avoid physical contact with the delivery person.
  4. Take advantage of discounts. In an effort to boost their sales, many small businesses are offering steep discounts on their products at this time. Take advantage by purchasing larger than normal quantities of the sale items to help the business stay afloat.

And in the interest of putting local businesses top of mind this season, we’ve compiled a list of our Central Park woman- and minority-owned establishments who would love to see you during this yuletide season.
